August 3rd

Hi, it’s Christina –

Happy Saturday folks! Hope everyone has something fun planned for the weekend – I don’t that’s why I hope you do! Just not in the mood to tackle a writing challenge today. The issue isn’t doing yesterday’s challenge, it’s coming up with a new one for today. I thought you guys were going to send me ideas? Perhaps I will have an inspiration (or suggestion) by tomorrow.
I started playing around with a cover for Corporate Blues. Tell me what you think.

I figure this would work to get the book out on Kindle and then when I have a little more income coming in, I will have the graphic designer mimic what I did. I wish I could figure out how to do the spine and the back myself. CreateSpace does have a free cover design available, but I don’t care for the fonts they offer. Who knows, maybe I’ll play around with it and come up with something I like.
While searching for a photo of blue eyes I liked, I came across this article about having blue eyes. If you have a minute to read it, it’s really interesting. http://channels.isp.netscape.com/whatsnew/package.jsp?name=fte/blueeyedpeople/blueeyedpeople
So, chime in with a quick comment. What color are your eyes? Mine are blue, and although I can’t see for beans out of them, I think they are my best feature. I may just have one of my kids take a photo of me, and I’ll airbrush out the wrinkles and use my own eyes for the cover. What do you think? Unless one of you out there would like to volunteer a photo…

July 29th

Hi, it’s Christina –

That’s it, I give up! It has got to be a sign that I am not meant to go to the Balloon Festival. We were caught in a monsoon!

After the concert, which was pretty dang good, I headed back to the van to get rid of my chair. My hubby, our friend and her boyfriend, his son, her sons and my daughter were about five minutes behind me. (We had the better parking spot, so we took all the chairs, blankets and coolers.) Anyway, when I see the group coming, I hop out of the van and start taking the chairs they were carrying over the fence so they wouldn’t have to carry them all the way around, and I toss them in the trunk. As I’m doing this it starts to rain a little.

My girlfriend, no longer burdened with a chair, has made it to my van. It starts raining a little harder. That’s when everyone decides they are going to take refuge in my van until the storm passes. I have fifteen chairs, two coolers, all the bags filled with the free-bees they give you at the festival, plus the bags of snacks we brought from home; and now eight people are expected to ride out the storm in the van as well. YIKES!

We decide the chairs have been wet before, they can get wet again, and it was perfectly fine for coolers to be out in the rain, so we pull everything water safe out of the trunk. Now it’s raining hard. Our crew starts running to the car. One by one they make it. At this point, it’s pouring and everyone is soaked to the bone.

I do a head count; two in the front, three in the middle (it’s a two-seater with a consul between the seats), and three in the trunk. I’m short one kid! My youngest daughter did not make it back. Apparently she had gone off with her cousin to find a friend. I manage to get a hold of her, her and her cousin are taking shelter under one of the tents. My sister-in-law and two of her kids are under another tent, and my in-laws have safely made it to a third tent. The family is riding out the storm in four separate locations. My concern is for the fourteen and thirteen year old who have no adult with them.

I want to go and find them, but they can’t tell me exactly where they are, and the rain is coming down in sheets. My baby’s out there cold and wet and scared; I’m starting to panic. She was fine. Cold and wet, yes, but much more annoyed than scared. She was going to stay put until the rain let up.

Forty-five minutes or so later, the rain lets up considerably. They all find each other and make it back to the bus that gets them to their car. We, on the other hand, are blocked in by, not one, but two balloon trucks which are stuck rim deep in the mud. There were cars and trucks stuck all over the lot where we were parked, everyone waiting for the backhoe to come around and pull them out. We decide to take a chance and see if we can get out. I make everyone pile out of the car so it has less weight. We survey the area to find a small patch of higher ground. That was the spot my husband was to shoot for; he was not to stop until he reached it. The rest of us would walk to the van and get in there. With my hubby’s fancy maneuvering and all hands on van to push the second wheels started to spin, he was able to reach the Promised Land.

Getting our friends back to where their car was parked was another ordeal but half an hour later, we managed to get them safely to their car. Another Balloon Festival weather disaster, another time the balloon launch gets cancelled; yeah, I’m really thinking I’m not supposed to go to these things.

Oh goodness, I just saw the time. We are supposed to be leaving for the beach in less than an hour and I don’t have anything done yet. Bye, have a great day. We’ll do the writing challenges tomorrow.

July 17th

Hi it’s Christina –

Sorry folks, no writing challenge today. I got a phone call from a friend. Her air conditioning went and the repairmen were coming today to fix it, but her work wouldn’t let her take the time off from work to meet them. They were supposed to be there between twelve and two and they were going to call half an hour before they were going to get there. OK, no big deal right? I did most of my running around early this morning so I could be back in town by eleven-thirty, but I left the grocery shopping until after they were done.

Wanna take a guess when the service guys showed up? Four-ten. Please keep in mind it was just shy of a hundred degrees today and the house had NO AC. No, I wasn’t sitting there all day, I went over at three-thirty, but still, they didn’t show up until the hottest part of the day. Seriously?

Part of the running around I did today was a trip to the bank. When my mother was working, every paycheck, she purchased savings bonds for my kids for their college fund. I took some of the bonds to be cashed in because the two of kids could use some extra money for books when they start college in the fall. Did you know savings do not mature for eighteen years? I swear it used to be ten years. OK all you math whizzes out there, what interest rate would it be to make fifty dollars on a fifty dollar investment if it took you eighteen years to make that fifty bucks? Less than half a percent right? I’m thinking savings bonds are not the greatest investment.

Anyway. I’m pooped from sitting in the heat for so long and my son is coming over for dinner. We haven’t seen him since his birthday. Still getting used to this whole kids old enough to move out thing. OK, I have to go make dinner. You’ll get a new writing challenge tomorrow. Have a great evening!

Hi, it's Christina -

Didn't get as much cleaning done yesterday as I should have, so I will be scrambling today cleaning and cooking. Unfortunately that also means, not time for the blog. Sorry, twice in one week. Have a great day and we'll chat tomorrow!

June 6th

Hi it's Christina -

Sorry folks, no challenge today. I was naughty and stayed up until the wee hours reading a book another author sent me. I couldn't put it down! So, I only got a few hours of sleep and I have to get over to my son's place today to HOPEFULLY finish the bathroom so he can FINALLY move out. Not that I want him to leave, but we have been working on getting the house ready for him for MONTHS and I am just ready for it to be done already.

Tomorrow we'll get to see what's going on between Ronald and the King. Until then, have a wonderful day!

May 29th

Hi it's Christina -

Sorry folks, no blog today, there's just not enough time. Hair, make-up and nails are finished. Just some final things to get done, then it's off to the train station. Still freaked out that I have to make the trek into NYC by myself. Please keep me in your thoughts so I have some good vibes to draw on. I tell y'all how it went tomorrow. Wish me luck!

May 26th

Hi it's Christina -

Yeah, I think I will take a break from the challenges today. All three kids had friends over last night, so when I woke up this morning we had twelve bodies sleeping in various places and positions throughout my house - couches covered, chairs covered, beds covered, floor covered. So I decided to be the good mommy and I whipped up a huge batch of crepes, pork roll, eggs, bagels so they could have a variety for breakfast. Don't know how long everyone will be hanging out here, so I don't know who will be here for lunch or dinner - it could be some of the same kids or a whole new set. It is going to be an interesting day!

Hope you are enjoying your weekend. I'll check in tomorrow and have a new challenge for you.

May 18th

Hi it's Christina -

Sorry, no blog today. I guess all the craziness of the past few days caught up to me and I was too tired to accept my own challenge, so today it's only going to be a quick update. The prom went well. The kids all had a good time. The gang all showed up here at 7:30 this morning. We loaded up the cars with luggage, food and kids and they all headed off to the Poconos for the weekend.

I took my youngest to the mall and we got the present for tomorrow's graduation party. I did a small run to the grocery store and then I was pretty much toast for the rest of the day. Now it is almost 10 and I'm DONE for the night; I'm going to bed.

I hope y'all had a more productive Saturday. I'll post a new challenge tomorrow as well as my response to yesterday's challenge. Have a great night!

Hi it's Christina -

Sorry guys, no challenge today. I have spent all day re-releasing my first book, A Second Chance, so it could be submitted to the Indie folks with its new ISBN and the couple of typos corrected. Just so you know, there may be up to a 72 hour delay until my books are available again.

Tomorrow I will tell you about the critique group I went to last night, but now I have to get ready to leave for WWW.
